juvenile court wards assets & behaviors study

The Search Institute’s “Assets and Behaviors” survey was utilized to measure the developmental assets, deficits, risk-taking behaviors and thriving indicators of a population of Midland County Juvenile Court Wards. The study was completed with the cooperation of the Midland County Probate Court and the several Community and Family Centers in the county. The study quantitatively demonstrated the significant gaps in the assets and behaviors of this population relative to national averages among general education adolescents. This study catalyzed the formation of Midland Kids First, a community group that is working to prevent and treat alcohol and substance abuse and juvenile sex offenses as well as to promote whole families and early childhood development.
